A new approach to tinnitus treatment through Neuromodulation — Balancing medical device design with a human need for familiarity and approachability

Project

LENIRE Tinnitus Treatment Device

Client

Neuromod Devices

Therapeutic neuromodulation is the alteration of nerve activity through targeted delivery of a stimulus to specific neurological sites in the body. In order to treat the symptoms of tinnitus, Neuromod Devices deliver electrical (via the tongue) and auditory stimuli in parallel.

We have worked with the NMD team since their beginnings as a university spin-out, from short run device housings for clinical trials through to full industrial design of their LENIRE product and mouthpiece.

Approachability
Placing an electrode array on your tongue can be an intimidating prospect. The challenge was to reduce this through familiarity. Analogous products were studied and referenced throughout the development process.
